We teach a range of different classes, depending on your dog’s age and ability. Use the links above to get more information about a particular class.
Why are our classes different?
At many other training classes, people join and leave classes all the time, dogs are barking and throwing themselves around, and frequently the trainer stands in the middle of the room shouting out instructions in the chaos…..
We believe that this doesn’t help dogs to learn, makes owners feel uncomfortable and is very stressful for both dog and human!
So, what’s our solution?
We run 8 week terms where there is little change in the class numbers (with the exception of puppy pre-school). This is nicer for you as you get to know others in your group, and much better for your dog. Dog packs are fairly static so a constantly changing class ‘pack’ is stressful – leading to barking, wild behaviour or dogs who hide under your chair and snap at others.
We have limited class sizes – our maximum class number is 10 dogs per class, and in classes where we have dogs and handlers needing more support, class numbers are kept smaller. We have 2 trainers in each class who will both work alongside you to teach and support you.
We bring dogs into class using a method to reduces their stress, and allows us to assess which dogs may need a little extra space around them. We constantly monitor the dogs to see how they are coping in class as a stressed, reactive dog is unable to learn. We have proven strategies to help these fearful or under confident dogs to grow in confidence and be able to cope better in the real world.
What do we teach?
We teach what we call ‘Training For Life’. We have a separate curriculum for each class, with objectives aimed either at the specific age of the dogs in the group, or across an ability range. We teach skills based around real-life topics – such as self-control, distance control or working with distractions.
Although we teach you as a class, we work with you all as individuals – providing alternative solutions or teaching methods and giving you all individual targets to work on each week.
We give you a Training For Life folder, which will form the basis of your individual training plan, This gets added to each week with handouts on new skills and advice on dealing with behavioural issues. You can even track your dogs progress by using our Targets & Achievements grid.
