Puppy Class

We welcome puppies to come and watch from as young as 8 weeks.  Before they are out of their jabs, the pup can either sit on your lap, or if they are very lively they can sit in a crate and watch.  The more outside experiences your puppy has, the better socialised he will be.

Once your puppy is out of his jabs, he can watch the class from the safety of the stage, and then come down on the main floor and join in our socialisation time during each puppy class.  We only have 1 puppy off lead at a time during this period, rather than letting everyone off at once.  Apart from the inevitable chaos this would cause, this stops the rugger player bouncy types (labradors and goldies most notably) from bouncing over the quiet, shy puppies (small breeds such as king charles spaniels) and aims to prevent the guarding breeds (such as german shepherds) from flying out and barking as a puppy rampages past!

If you get your puppy part way through our 8 week term, you are welcome to come and watch each week at no cost.  This way you can learn how to start your puppy's training from simply watching the class, get advice from us if you have problems, and let your pup join in the socialising each week.

What do we teach?

During the course we teach lots of essential skill such as walking on a loose lead, sit, wait, come and so on, but we also include dog psychology and behaviour so you understand why your pup digs holes in your flower beds and may not travel well in your car.

About to bring your puppy home?

A number of people call to arrange visiting our classes before they bring their pup home, and to get advice about what to do when they actually bring their baby home.

What if you have a dog over the age of 5 months?

We no longer class these as puppies (as they are getting their adult teeth) and we have an introductory class for these dogs.  This is a topic based classed, designed to fit around the specific needs of each dog and handler.  We still have time for play - after all, every dog needs good social skills!  Typical topics include basic clicker training, dog walking, self control and social skills.
